    • Gunner Toghill, 21st Battery (and others), Royal Field Artillery, had an eventful career in the army. He was disciplined many times for insubordination, threatening behaviour to a senior officer and Absence Without Leave. He was gassed at least twice and spent considerable time in hospital. In 1918, he contracted Gonorohea, followed by Appendicitus 5 months later. In 1919 he was hospitalised again, having claimed to have swallowed a needle. An X-ray revealed nothing.
      On 18 July 1919, he was discharged to the Army Reserve, Class Z, Woolwich. His total service spanned 5 years and 217 days.
